The combined volume of containerized shipments handled in late May at China's eight leading coastal ports swelled 8.5% year on year, according to statistics compiled by a local port and harbor association on port and harbor operators' production activities amid the coronavirus pandemic. Exports surged 13%, but domestic containers shrank 6.3%. Individually, throughput jumped 60% at Shenzhen, which was higher than any other. Production gradually picked up at factories in Shanghai, while supply chains also improved. Containers to and from the port increased 0.8%. From mid-May, container lifting per day hiked 4.7%. In May, container trade to and from the eight ports grew 4.1% from a year earlier. International containers rose 7.4%. As some were influenced by COVID-19, domestic containers fell 5.6%.
