The composite China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) went down 0.4% from the previous week to 3,096.85 points in Week 17, remaining on a downward trend for two back-to-back weeks, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE). The composite Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI), meanwhile, stood at 4,177.3 points, falling 0.4% and staying on the decline for 15 weeks in a row.

Looking at index fluctuations on east-west routes, the CCFIs sank 0.4% to 5,063.35 points on the route to Europe but improved a minute 0.3% to 6,021.42 points on that to the Mediterranean. On the trade to the east coast of North America, the CCFI dropped 3.2% to 2,561.15 points. On the route to the west coast, the index waned 0.6% to 2,324.05 points.

The CCFI, an index for medium- and long-term contracts, was set at 1,000 points on Jan. 1, 1998, while the SCFI, an index for spot rates that do not include terminal handling charges (THCs), was set at the same value on Oct. 16, 2009.
