Container exports to the U.S. from 10 major countries and regions in Asia amounted to 1,770,937 TEUs in January (based on volumes of shipments that mother vessels are loaded with at ports of origin), Descartes Datamyne recently reported. The U.S. research company added that there was an increase of 6.9%, which was made year on year for the 19th month in a row.

By origin, exports from China surged 10.7% to 1,091,279 TEUs, registering a year-on-year improvement for 20 straight months and holding the leading share of the pie. Ranked second were those from South Korea, which swelled 2.4% to 167,794 TEUs. Finishing in sixth place, those from India jumped a more notable 23.8% to 68,042 TEUs. In contrast, containers from Vietnam shrank 2.6% to 130,836 TEUs, coming in third. Those from Taiwan fell 3.6% to 75,564 TEUs, finishing in fourth. Those from Singapore were in fifth place, waning 8% to 73,944 TEUs. Exports from Japan were at the bottom of the top 10, which sank 3.3% to 36,880 TEUs. Based on volumes at ports of destination, however, they increased 10% to 55,000 TEUs.
