In 2021 the port of New York - New Jersey handled a record container traffic equal to almost 9.0 million TEUs, with a decided growth of 18.5% on 2020 when the previous historical record was set and when the volumes handled had recorded an increase of 1.5% on the previous year.
The new historical peak was obtained thanks to the new record of unloading of full containers, which amounted to 4.6 million TEUs, up 17.0% and to the new record of loading of empty containers, which were equal to 3.0 million TEUs, up 30.0%. More contained is the rise of both full containers on boarding, which totaled less than 1.4 million TEUs, up 2.9% and empty containers on landing, which stood at 28 thousand TEUs, up4.5% on year.
