Recently unveiled Week 8 freight rates for exporting containerized shipments from China. The China (Export) Containerized Freight Index (CCFI, Jan. 1, 1998=1000) stood at 2,059.52 points last week, down 0.6% from the 2,071.71 points, which were marked a week earlier, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE). The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index, an index for spot rates for exports from Shanghai, also fell 3.5% from 2,875.93 points last week to 2,775.29 points.

On the trade route to Europe, the CCFI sank 1.3% to 3,327.5 points, while the index slid a more notable 4.3% to 3,539 points for containers bound for the Mediterranean. In contrast, freight rates improved for those to the east coast of North America, with the CCFI climbing 1.3% to 1,602.7 points. The index for those to the west coast hiked 2.8% to 1,418.84 points.

On the route to the Middle East Gulf and the Red Sea, the CCFI came down 2.1% to 2,057.42 points, while the index picked up 0.7% to 1,583.89 points for containers to Australia and New Zealand. Rate slipped 8.3% to 1,856.3 points for those to South America.

On shortsea trades, the CCFI improved 9.4% to 912.21 points for shipments to Japan but diminished 3.2% to 1,452.07 points for those to Southeast Asia.
