Outbound containers from Japan to China plunged 21.3% to 869,572 tons in June, incurring a year-on-year contraction for four months in a row and setting the new lowest record for the month in question, according to statistics unveiled by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). In terms of value, they fell 12.8% to \701 billion, which declined year on year for the fourth consecutive month on a value scale as well.

The JMC statistics, compiled from trade figures provided by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), indicated that imports from China to Japan, in contrast, swelled 1.7% to 1,848,895 tons, accomplishing the first year-on-year improvement in two months. In value terms, however, they sank 3.8% to \1.034 trillion, suffering a year-on-year decrease for two months running.
