The total number of secondhand passenger cars, cargo freighters and busses exported from Japan in March decreased 4.6% to 116,936, incurring the first year-on-year contraction in three months, according to a report unveiled by the International Auto Trade Association (iATA). Exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mongolia and Jamaica were brisk, but those to Sri Lanka, Pakistan and South Africa all plunged.

By destination, the iATA report, which had been compiled with trade statistics provided by the Ministry of Finance, indicated that exports to the UAE swelled 43.3% to 16,296 units, enjoying the leading share of the pie. Those to New Zealand plummeted 10.4% to 10,741 units, but managed to finish in second place. The third largest destination was Russia, to which 10,567 units were exported, up 3.2%. Exports to Mongolia, Jamaica and Bangladesh were particularly favorable, surging 32.6% to 5,248 units, 58.5% to 3,072 units and 65.8% to 2,353 units, respectively.

In January-March, the iATA sad that Japan exported a total of 299,255 secondhand vehicles, down 1.3%.
