A total of 584,823 TEUs of containers were traded directly between Taiwan and China in the first quarter (January-March) of 2019, up 2.74% year on year from 569,237 TEUs, according to the former economy’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC).

Looking at containers to and from major ports in Taiwan, growth was notable at Taipei. Specific volumes were as follows: 295,640 TEUs a Kaohsiung, up 0.41%; 134,974 TEUs at Keelung, down 0.44%; 128,522 TEUs at Taichung, up 8.23% and 25,796 TEUs at Taipei, up 25.34%.
