The Port of Osaka handled 145,014 TEUs of containers in February, down 6% year on year. Exports of loaded containers accounted for 33,538 TEUs, up 9%, while imports in general plunged 11% to 72,526 TEUs. Empty containers totaled 38,950 TEUs, down 9%.

In the first two months (January-February), 327,900 TEUs were moved to and from Osaka, which remained nearly unchanged from the corresponding months of 2018. As for loaded containers, 60,266 TEUs were exported, down 1%. Imports also almost leveled off from a year earlier at 176,654 TEUs. Empty containers also leveled off at 90,980 TEUs.

Containers to and from the Port of Kobe amounted to 169,945 TEUs in February, down 0.6% from a year earlier. Exports accounted for 99,608 TEUs, up 5.5%, while the remaining 70,337 TEUs were imported, down 8.2%. In the first two months (January-February), total container throughput stood at 348,334 TEUs, up 1.5%, consisting of 187,797 TEUs of exports, up 2.4%, and 160,537 TEUs of imports, up 0.5%.
