The combined volume of containerized shipments that major shipping lines moved in October among 13 countries and regions in Asia was 1.056 million TEUs, which decreased 9.8% from a year earlier and suffered a year-on-year for the fourth consecutive month. In breakdown, dry cargo accounted for 994,000 TEUs, which went down 10%, and reefer cargo, the balance of 62,000 TEUs, down 6.2%. Exports from Japan to the other economies plunged 18.1% to 106,000 TEUs, while imports to Japan from the 12 declined 8.4% to 168,000 TEUs.

In the first 10 months (January-October), total throughput on the intra-Asia trade was 11.228 million TEUs, which fell 2.1% from the corresponding months of 2015. Containers from Japan diminished 11.6% to 1.237 million TEUs, while those to Japan waned 2.7% to 1.852 million TEUs.
