The accumulated volume of containerized shipments handled at the Port of Kobe in the first 10 months (January-October) of this year was 2.293 million TEUs, which increased 1.9% year on year and indicated that it was on an upward trend. In breakdown, exports rose 0.1% to 940,000 TEUs, but imports decreased 0.9% to 812,000 TEUs for a total of 1.752 million TEUs, which waned 0.4%. Meanwhile, domestic cargo surged 10% to 540,000 TEUs.
In October alone, Kobe processed 229,000 TEUs of containers, which fell 1.2% from a year earlier. Oceangoing shipments went down 5.3% to 171,000 TEUs, which consisted of 93,000 TEUs of exports, up 6.9%, and 77,600 TEUs of imports, down 3.3%. Containers moved to and from other domestic ports soared 13.3% to 58,000 TEUs.
