Container throughput at the Port of Busan reached an all-time high in March and the first quarter (January-March) of 2015, according to an announcement made by the Busan Port Authority (BPA).

In March, Busan handled 1.63 TEUs of containers, which improved 1.9% year on year. In breakdown, exports and imports went up 1.8% to 823,494 TEUs in total, and transshipment (T/S) containers, up 1.9% to 809,045 TEUs. Hitting a record high, the total of exports and imports exceeded the volume of T/S containers by more than 14,000 TEUs for the first time since the beginning of this year.

In the first quarter, meanwhile, 4.709 million TEUs were transported to and from the port, which swelled 5.7% from a year earlier. Export and import containers inflated 2.3% to 2.248 million TEUs, while T/S shipments surged 9.1% to 2.461 million TEUs.
