The world’s Big Three container ports all achieved steady growth in throughput in May.

The Port of Shanghai handled 3.017 million TEUs, increasing 2.8% from a year earlier from 2.94 million TEUs but decreasing a minute 0.2% from a month earlier from 3.022 million TEUs. Hong Kong processed 1.949 million TEUs, which improved 4.5% year on year. The throughput helped Hong Kong mark a year-on-year gain for the fourth consecutive month. Containers totaled 2.943 million TEUs at Singapore, growing 4.1%, but Singapore fell to third place by a little margin.

In the first five months (January-May) of 2014, a total of 14.205 million TEUs were transported to and from Shanghai, which hiked 4.7% from the corresponding months of the previous year from 13.57 million TEUs. Singapore exported and imported 13.668 million TEUs in total, climbing 4.4%. Singapore finished in second by a margin of 500,000 TEUs. Hong Kong processed 9.221 million TEUs, going up 3.5%.
