The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan will launch a new panel on Jan. 24, 2014 to discuss how the nation’s logistics system can meet growth in exports of agricultural and fishery food products. The committee will be made up of representatives from the MLIT; the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF); the food industry; associations of exporters and international freight forwarders. It is scheduled to come up with proposals within fiscal 2014 (April 2014-March 2015).

Currently, the government of Japan is striving to double the overall value of exports of agricultural and fishery food products to \1 trillion by 2020 based on the so-called Japan Revitalization Strategy and Plan to Create Vitality for Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Industries and Local Communities. The new discussion committee will exchange views on how the agricultural and fishery food as well as logistics industries can develop new markets in other countries, concentrate and secure shipments in Japan, have efficient logistics and carriage services and maintain high-quality transport. It will compile proposals from findings and submit them to Tokyo.
