Container traffic on the trade from Asia to Europe amounted to 3.7 million TEUs in the third quarter (July – Sept) of 2013, representing an 8% increase over the same period last year, the strongest growth of the year as against a 1.2% decline for the first quarter and a 2.7% growth in the second quarter.
For the first nine months, box volume on the trade stood at 10.70 million TEUs, up 3.4% year on year.
In the first three quarters, containerized exports from Asia to North Europe rose slightly by 1.8% on year to 6.8 million TEUs while export boxes to the East Mediterranean achieved a double-digit increase of 10.8% to 1.9 million TEUs and those to the West Mediterranean grew only 3.6% year on year.
