Ports in China handled a total of 16,495,000 TEUs of containerized shipments in July 2013, according to a preliminary report on container throughput at ports and harbors released by the nation's Ministry of Transport.
The total was up 8.4% from July 2012, and the growth rate was up 0.3% from June 2013.
Throughput was steady both at coastal and inland river ports, which improved 7.6% to 14,677,200 TEUs at the former ports, and a much greater 14.7% to 1,817,800 TEUs at the latter ports.
In the first seven months (January-July), 108,003,900 TEUs were traded to and from China, which increased 8.3% year on year, the ministry said.
In breakdown, coastal ports were responsible for 96,208,000 TEUs, going up 7.9%, and inland river ports, the balance of 11,795,900 TEUs, up 11.8%.
