A total of 1,178,822 TEUs of containerized shipments were traded on the intra-Asia trade in August 2012.
The total throughput was greater by 2.4% from a year earlier than 1,150,748 TEUs but smaller by 5.4% from a month earlier.
In the first eight months （January-August）, 9,642,000 TEUs were moved on the trade - among 13 Asia economies - swelling 8.3% year on year from 8,903,000 TEUs.
In August, exports from Japan rose 0.7% from the corresponding month of 2011 to 166,000 TEUs and imports, 6.4% to 201,000 TEUs.
As for containers to and from Myanmar, which joined the intra-Asia trade in July, 2,200 TEUs were exported and 7,100 TEUs imported.
