According to China's Ministry of Transport, the nation's foreign trade cargo throughput amounted to 249.47 million tons in July, representing a year-on-year growth of 4.2%. For the first seven months, its ocean freight totaled 1,764.32 million tons, up 12.1% over the same period last year. Of the total, coastal ports handled 1.60947 billion tons, up 12.0% year on year while river ports processed 154.85 million tons, up 13.2% on year.

Container volumes in China continued to grow in July, to 15,104,700 TEUs, but the growth rate shrank to 3.8%, the lowest in the year excluding January when the port operations had stopped during the Spring Festival.

In the first seven months, container throughput stood at 99,571,900 TEUs, an increase of 7.9% from the same period in 2011. Coastal ports handled 89,028,500 TEUs, up 7.7% while river ports processed 10,543,400 TEUs, up 8.8% year on year.
