Tokyo and Beijing will set up a joint working group for promoting the use of returnable logistics materials.

They reached agreement during the second round of talks they recently had in Tokyo to exchange views on logistics policies, according to an announcement made jointly by the Japanese ministries of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT).

The establishment of the working group will be proposed when the governments meet next time to have high-level economics dialogue.

The working group will be responsible for doing research on how returnable logistics materials, including palettes, are used and studying how they will be used more widely.

Building upon results obtained from test demonstrations, it will also propose policies for having logistics materials used more smoothly in international services for transporting auto parts and components as well as electronics.
