Container trade between Japan and China achieved a steady 6.5% growth with a total of 256,823 TEUs in March led by bullish demand for exports from Japan, registering the sixth year-on-year monthly rise.
In March, exports from Japan increased 14.6% from the previous year to 96,547 TEUs while imports from China to Japan rose 2.2% year on year to 160,276 TEUs, the increase of two straight months.
For the first three months of the year, box traffic amounted to 690,780 TEUs, representing a 12% increase of the same period in 2009. Outbound shipments from Japan to China surged 19.2% from a year before to 245,091 TEUs while inbound volume from China climbed 8.4% on year to 445,689 TEUs.
