The Port of Osaka handled 180,600 TEUs of international containerized shipments in April, down 0.5%, its first year-on-year contraction in five months, according to preliminary statistics unveiled by the Osaka Ports and Harbors Bureau.
The total consisted of 83,371 TEUs of exports, down 2.9%, and 97,229 TEUs of imports, up 1.7%. As for loaded containers, 37,166 TEUs were exported, up 8.8%, and 89,612 TEUs were imported, down 3.1%, for a total of 126,778 TEUs, up 0.1%. Meanwhile, empty containers totaled 53,822 TEUs, down 2%.
In the first four months (January-April), Osaka processed a total of 696,378 TEUs of exports and imports, up 3.7%, with the former swelling 3.9% to 316,778 TEUs, and the latter, 3.6% to 379,600 TEUs. As for loaded containers, the port exported 136,263 TEUs, up 9.7%, and imported 355,361 TEUs, down 0.6%, for a total of 491,624 TEUs, up 2.1%. Empties added up to 204,754 TEUs in total, up 7.8%.
