South Korea’s container trade with eight other Asian economies amounted to 343,100 TEUs in April, down 5% year on year from 362,200 TEUs, a contraction for three consecutive months since February, according to statistics compiled by the Korea Customs Service (KCS) that were reported by local media.
Exports and imports both declined, with the former going down 7% to 166,500 TEUs, a year-on-year decrease for three months in a row, and the latter, 3% to 176,600 TEUs, a year-on-year decrease for two months in a row.
Containers to and from most trade partners decreased but those to and from Taiwan. Exports to and imports from Vietnam totaled 114,500 TEUs, down 3%; to and from Malaysia, 51,800 TEUs, down 0.2%; to and from Indonesia, 48,900 TEUs, down 1%; to and from Thailand, 43,500 TEUs, down 22%; to and from Taiwan, 31,400 TEUs, up 4%; to and from the Philippines, 20,600 TEUs, down 4%; to and from Hong Kong, 16,900 TEUs, down 3%; and to and from Singapore, 15,200 TEUs, down 15%.
