The Port of Osaka handled 180,184 TEUs of foreign-trade containers in October, down 7.3% year on year for the second consecutive month of decline, according to preliminary statistics compiled by the Osaka Ports and Harbors Bureau.

Exports accounted for 82,790 TEUs, down 8.6%, and imports, 97,394 TEUs, down 6.3%. As for loaded containers, 36,137 TEUs were exported, down 10.6%, and 91,707 TEUs were imported, down 9.4%, for a total of 127,844 TEUs, down 9.7%. Empty containers totaled 52,340 TEUs, down 1%.

In the first 10 months (January-October), foreign-trade containers to and from Osaka amounted to 1.73 million TEUs, up 2.9%, comprising 789,219 TEUs of exports, up 4.6%, and 936,146 TEUs of imports, up 1.6%. Loaded containers added up to 1.22 million TEUs, down 0.1%, which consisted of 318,423 TEUs of exports, down 3.6%, and 902,605 TEUs of imports, up 1.2%. Empties aggregated 504,338 TEUs, up 11.3%.
