Mitsui E&S has won a contract to develop a platform for a new service combining a terminal operating system (TOP) and an overland service provider’s vehicle deployment system. The Tokyo-based heavy industries company has launched the operation of the service at the Port of Shimizu in central Japan’s container terminals, which are operated by Suzuyo, a Shimizu, Shizuoka Prefecture-headquartered logistics company.

The service is designed to allow terminals and overland service providers to coordinate information to facilitate entire job flows at terminals. More specifically, it helps terminals that have information on container loading and unloading schedules, relevant work progresses, crane operation statuses and so on link in real time with overland service providers that have information on truck arrivals at terminals, which cargo to move and so on. Terminals can, as such, figure out truck arrivals in advance to more efficiently arrange container pickup locations and prepare relevant equipment. Meanwhile, overland service providers can make optimum vehicle deployment schedules in accordance with terminal congestion.

Mitsui E&S will provide another service for analyzing terminal congestion and unveiling in a ranked order on what lanes containers can be picked up smoothly. It is expected to allow terminals to avoid vessel-truck operation overlaps to streamline entire job flows, while overland service providers will be able to pick up containers from uncongested lanes more easily.
