The Port of Shimizu in central Japan processed 31,388 TEUs of loaded oceangoing containers in October, up 3% year on year, according to the Shizuoka Prefectural Government's Shimizu Port Authority. Exports accounted for 14,418 TEUs, up 6.8%, and imports, 16,970 TEUs, unchanged. Empty containers totaled 4,230 TEUs, down 24.8%. Domestic containers amounted to 9,782 TEUs, up 14.8%, for a total throughput of 45,400 TEUs, up 1.8%, the first year-on-year increase in two months.
In the first 10 months (January-October), loaded oceangoing containers to and from Shimizu added up to 290,180 TEUs, up 1.5%, which consisted of 125,665 TEUs of exports, up 0.7%, and 164,515 TEUs of imports, up 2.1%. Empties came to 46,854 TEUs in total, up 1.4%. Domestic containers numbered 89,931 TEUs, down 0.7%, for a total of 426,965 TEUs, up 1%.
