U.S. container imports from 10 major Asian economies amounted to 9.85 million TEUs in the first half (January-June), up 3.9% year on year, according to statistics compiled by Descartes Datamyne from data provided by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). U.S. imports totaled 13.88 million, up 4%.

By origin, the U.S. imported 5.14 million TEUs from China, down 3.7%; 1.22 million TEUs from Vietnam, up 35.5%; 1.22 million TEUs from South Korea, up 3.5%; 455,856 TEUs from Singapore, up 3.5%; and 454,206 TEUs from Taiwan, up 3.5%. Those from Japan added up to 211,750 TEUs, down 7%.

In June, U.S. imports from the 10 Asian countries and regions came to 1.54 million TEUs, down 8.5%. From the previous month, however, they increased 3.3%. Overall imports added up to 2.23 million TEUs, down 3.7%.

By origin, imports from China came to 733,418 TEUs, which plunged 24.1% due to the U.S. tariff policy, but managed to hold the leading share of the pie. Those from Vietnam numbered 245,985 TEUs, up 57.5%; from South Korea, 181,758 TEUs, down 11.4%; from Taiwan, 73,640 TEUs, down 13.4%; and from Singapore, 70,240 TEUs, up 3.3%. Imports from Japan plummeted 13.9% to 33,353 TEUs, finishing in ninth place.
