A total of 2.6 million TEUs of containers were traded between South Korea and China in the first nine months (January-September) of 2024, up 7.56% year on year, according to the Yellow Sea Liner Shipping Council (YSLSC). Exports and imports accounted for 2.45 million TEUs, up 6.82%, while the remaining 150,451 TEUs were moved in feeder services, up 21.1%.
Containers from South Korea to China amounted to 920,755 TEUs, up 7.76%, consisting of 854,840 TEUs of exports and imports, up 5.84%, and 65,915 TEUs of feeder containers, up 41.04%. Meanwhile, those from China to South Korea totaled 1.68 million TEUs, up 7.44%, consisting of 1.6 million TEUs of exports and imports, up 7.35%, and 84,536 TEUs of feeder shipments, up 9.19%.
Turning to volumes at major ports in China, Shanghai handled 665,496 TEUs of containers to and from South Korea in January-September, up 3.22%; Qingdao, 463,364 TEUs, up 15.63%; Xingang, 307,271 TEUs, up 11.42%; Ningbo, 264,066 TEUs, down 1.42%; and Dalian, 127,241 TEUs, up 0.24%.
