The Port of Osaka processed 185,050 TEUs of containers in September, up 7.3% from a year earlier, the first year-on-year improvement it had accomplished in two months, according to the Osaka Ports and Harbors Bureau. Exports increased 1.3% to 80,086 TEUs, and imports, a more remarkable 12.4% to 104,964 TEUs.
As for loaded containers, Osaka exported 33,469 TEUs, up 1.9%, and imported 100,844 TEUs, up 10.7%, for a total of 134,313 TEUs, up 8.4%. The remaining 50,737 TEUs were empties, up 4.5%.
In the first nine months (January-September), Osaka handled 1.48 million TEUs, down a minute 0.2% year on year, which consisted of 658,195 TEUs of exports, down 3.3%, and 817,313 TEUs of imports, up 2.4%. Laden containers accounted for 1.08 million TEUs, up 2%, of which 288,856 TEUs were exported, up 1.4%, and 790,235 TEUs were imported, up 2.2%. Empty containers totaled 396,417 TEUs, down 5.8%.
