The Port of Nagoya in Japan handled 224,898 TEUs of containers in September, down 2.5%, a year-on-year contraction for the second consecutive month, according to preliminary statistics unveiled by the Nagoya Port Authority (NPA).

Looking at performances at individual terminals, throughput jumped 87.9% to 7,700 TEUs at Tobishima Pier North Container Terminal and increased 7.4% to 52,224 TEUs at Tobishima Pier South Side Container Terminal. On the other hand, volumes plunged 13.2% to 47,389 TEUs at NCB Container Terminal and 10.4% to 20,318 TEUs at Tobishima Pier South Container Terminal. Containers to and from Nabeta Pier Container Terminal declined 3.4% to 97,267 TEUs.

In the first nine months, Nagoya processed 1.89 million TEUs, up 1.9%. Volumes grew 8.8% to 422,888 TEUs at Tobishima Pier South Side Container Terminal, 5.8% to 184,469 TEUs at Tobishima Pier South Container Terminal, 0.3% to 802,427 TEUs at Nabeta Pier Container Terminal and 0.2% to 421,045 TEUs at NCB Container Terminal. In contrast, throughput plummeted 15.6% to 61,521 TEUs at Tobishima Pier North Container Terminal, while 336 TEUs were handled elsewhere, down 34.6%.
