Inbound cargo to U.S. major container ports is projected to remain on track to show year-over-year increases through the first half of 2024, according to the Global Port Tracker (GPT) report released recently by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Hackett Associates.

The U.S. ports covered by the GPT handled 1.96 million TEUs of containers in January, up 4.7% from December and up 8.6% year on year.

Ports have not yet reported February’s numbers, but the GPT projects the month at 1.9 million TEUs, up 22.7% year on year. March is forecast at 1.77 million TEUs, up 8.8%. April is forecast at 1.84 million TEUs, up 3.1% year; May at 1.94 million TEUs, up 0.5%; June also at 1.94 million TEUs, up 5.7%, and July at 1.99 million TEUs, up 3.8%.
