The Port of Shimizu in central Japan handled 43,210 TEUs of containers in November, which fell 4% from a year earlier, according to preliminary statistics unveiled by the Shizuoka Prefectural Government's Shimizu Port Authority. The port suffered a year-on-year throughput contraction for two back-to-back months.

Oceangoing containers accounted for 35,718 TEUs, down 0.9%. As regards loaded containers, 14,527 TEUs were exported, up 4.2%, and 16,497 TEUs were imported, down 1.8%. Empties totaled 4,694 TEUs, down 12%.

In January-November, 466,292 TEUs were moved to and from Shimizu, down 7.5% year on year, which included 374,190 TEUs of oceangoing containers, down 7%. Loaded exports amounted to 147,748 TEUs, down 10.8%, and imports, 173,827 TEUs, down 7.4%. Domestic containers aggregated 92,102 TEUs, down 9.8%.
