Japan's six major ports (Tokyo, Kawasaki, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe) handled a total of 1,231,922 TEUs of oceangoing containers in July, which improved 6.5% from the same month of 2021, according to preliminary statistics unveiled by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). They have recorded a year-on-year increase in container throughput for two back-to-back months. Growth was registered in both exports and imports, which swelled 6.8% to 608,804 TEUs and 6.2% to 623,118 TEUs, respectively.
