Containerized shipments exported from Japan to China in March waned 8.7% to 877,107 tons, incurring their first year-on-year contraction in two months, according to trade statistics unveiled by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). In terms of value, in contrast, they grew 0.1% to \910.7 billion (US$7.15 billion), increasing year on year for two back-to-back months.

Imports from China to Japan, meanwhile, fell 1.1% to 1,800,946 tons, marking a year-on-year shrinkage for the second month in a row, say the JMC statistics, which were compiled from trade data provided by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) of Japan. In terms of value, they ballooned 21.2% to \1.3 trillion ($10.2 billion), swelling year on year for 10 months running.
