The total volume of containerized shipments processes at Chinese ports in April amounted to 23.66 million TEUs, going down 0.5% from a year earlier, according to the nation’s Ministry of Transport (MOT). Containers to and from coastal ports improved a minute 0.2% to 20.81 million TEUs, but those to and from inland river ports shrank 3.1% to 2.85 million TEUs.

As the city of Shanghai has been under a lockdown for about a month and a half since late-March, throughput at the Port of Shanghai plunged due to stagnant production at factories and logistics disruptions. The port only handled 3.08 million TEUs last month, which decreased a notable 17.1%. In contrast, Ningbo-Zhoushan, a nearby port complex that stood in for Shanghai, processed 3.03 million TEUs, which surged 11.8%. Throughput increased dramatically at the southern port of Shenzhen, too, soaring 10.6% to 2.61 million TEUs. From a month earlier, there was an increase of 11.8%, and from February, 44%.
