The Port of Shimizu in Japan processed 46,196 TEUs of international and domestic containers in April, which went down 9.9% from a year earlier, according to preliminary statistics. International shipments shrank 7.3% to 37,291 TEUs, suffering their first year-on-year contraction in four months, while domestic shipments plunged a more notable 19.7% to 8,905 TEUs. Exports of loaded containers dipped 5.8% to 15,480 TEUs, and imports, 8.7% to 16,425 TEUs for a total of 31,725 TEUs, down 7.3%. Meanwhile, exports and imports of empties totaled 5,566 TEUs, down 7%.
