Container exports to the U.S. from 10 major countries and regions in Asia amounted to 1,693,680 TEUs in February (based on volumes at ports of loading where containerized shipments are loaded aboard mother vessels), which spiked 16.4% from the corresponding month of last year, according to Descartes Datamyne. The U.S. research company has indicated that a year-on-year improvement was made for the 20th month in a row, which brought about a new monthly record for February.

By origin, containers from China surged 15.8% to 1,058,334 TEUs, swelling from a year earlier for 21 straight months and hitting the number one spot. Ranked second were those from South Korea, which soared 16.3% to 157,263 TEUs. Exports from Vietnam swelled 17% to 134,143 TEUs, registering their first year-on-year increase in five months and coming to third. Fourth place was grabbed by those from Taiwan, which jumped 33.6% to amount to 87,745 TEUs, and there was the first year-on-year augmentation in two months. In contrast, those from Singapore shrank 2.3% to 60,552 TEUs, which placed the city state at the bottom of the top five. Japan was the ninth-largest source of U.S.-bound containers, exporting 28,298 TEUs, up 26.1%, which marked its first year-on-year growth in six months.
