Last week, the composite index for spot rates for container exports from the Chinese port of Shanghai went down 0.8% from the previous week to 5,053.12 points, falling for two back-to-back weeks, the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE) has said.
On the trade route to Europe, spot rates slid 0.2% to $7,783 per TEU, dipping for eight weeks in a row. Those for containers destined to the Mediterranean, in contrast, improved by a minute $2 (0.03%) to $7,522 per TEU.
On the route to North America, shipping space supply swelled as much as 25.7%. As a consequence, spot rates dipped 3.3% to $11,337 per FEU for exports to the east coast, declining for two consecutive weeks. Rates for those to the west coast, meanwhile, sagged 0.2% to $7,783 per FEU.
