Loaded foreign-trade containers to and from the Port of Tokyo in September remained nearly unchanged at 260,289 TEUs, down 0.3% from the corresponding month of 2020, according to preliminary statistics unveiled by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG)’s Bureau of Port and Harbor. Exports accounted for 71,880 TEUs, up 2.7%, and imports, 188,409 TEUs, down 1.4%. Meanwhile, empty export and import containers totaled 90,051 TEUs, up 6%.

In January-September, Tokyo handled a total of 2,411,523 TEUs of full containers, up 4.4% from the same nine months of last year, exporting 693,807 TEUs, up 9.9%, and importing 1,717,716 TEUs, up 2.3%. Empties numbered 777,868 TEUs in total, down 19.4%.
