Spot rates for container exports from the Chinese port of Shanghai in Week 32 fell 0.1% from the previous week to $7,407 per TEU to Europe but improved 0.1% to $7,051 per TEU to the Mediterranean, the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE) has announced. On the trade route to North America, rates for containers destined to the east coast hit a new record of $10,452 per FEU, up 2.8%. Rates for those to the west coast also reached an all-time high, reaching $5,744 per FEU, up 3.4%.

Freight rates were brisk on north-south routes as well, swelling 1.6% to $3,643 per TEU for shipments to the Middle East Gulf, 5.4% to $3,717 per TEU for those to Australia and New Zealand, 4.9% to $9,820 per TEU for those to South America; 5.1% to $5,322 per TEU for those to southern Africa and 1.9% to $8,280 per TEU for those to eastern and western Africa.

On the intra-Asia trade, spot rates for containers to Southeast Asia, South Korea and Japan all remained unchanged.
