Containerized shipments traded between South Korea and eight other Asian countries and regions totaled 1,748,200 TEUs in the first half of this year, increasing 6% from the corresponding six months of 2020. Exports from South Korea accounted for 897,400 TEUs, up 6%, and imports to the nation, 850,800 TEUs, up 5%.

By trade partner, notable improvements were made in containers to and from Vietnam, Hong Kong and the Philippines, which jumped 12% to 659,100 TEUs, 11% to 182,200 TEUs and 25% to 130,100 TEUs, respectively. Those to and from Indonesia and Singapore were also brisk, growing 6% to 250,700 TEUs and 5% to 127,500 TEUs, respectively.

In contrast, exports to and imports from Thailand, Malaysia and Taiwan all shrank from a year earlier, which fell 2% to 276,000 TEUs, 4% to 235,400 TEUs and 2% to 224,300 TEUs.
