The combined volume of containerized shipments processed at the four major ports in Taiwan came to 7,717,655 TEUs in the first half, growing 6.95% year on year from 7,216,139 TEUs, according to the local Ministry of Transportation and Communication (MOTC).

Container throughput improved at all of the port quartet. Specifically, Kaohsiung handled 4,946,428 TEUs, up 2.01%; Taipei, 1,016,884 TEUs, up 30.66%; Taichung, 977,979 TEUs, up 10.06%; and Keelung, 776,357 TEUs, up 8.34%.

Container exports to and imports from China accounted for a total of 1,208,382 TEUs in January-June, which fell 0.55% from 1,215,028 TEUs.

By port, Kaohsiung was responsible for 519,090 TEUs, down 9.56%; Taichung, 274,473 TEUs, down 5.01%; Keelung, 326,211 TEUs, up 13.03%; and Taipei, 88,609 TEUs, up 39.58%.
