Container exports to the U.S. from 10 major countries and regions in Asia amounted to 1,666,209 TEUs in June (based on shipping volumes at ports of origin), up 29% from the corresponding month of 2020, Descartes Datamyne announced on July 12. Marking a year-on-year improvement for the 12th straight month, they reached a new record for the month in question. In the first half, a total of 10,037,219 TEUs were moved on the route, up 39.6%.

In January-June, all of the 10 above-mentioned Asian economies accomplished year-on-year growth in shipping volume, the U.S. research company added, referring to Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and bill-of-lading (B/L) data provided by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Accounting for the largest part of the pie, containers from China swelled 50.5% to 5,991,403 TEUs. Coming in second place, those from South Korea hiked 14.6% to 980,590 TEU. The third-largest exporter was Vietnam, which shipped 817,030 TEUs, up 46.6%. Taiwan won fourth place, from which 538,368 TEUs were exported, up 12.4%. Ranked at the bottom of the top five were those from Singapore, which surged 27% to 440,560 TEUs. Singapore was followed by India, which exported 334,657 TEUs and took No. 6 place. Exports from Japan finished in ninth place, increasing 7.5% to 221,115 TEUs.
