Container exports to the U.S. from 10 major countries and regions in Asia set a new monthly record in March, ballooning 97.2% to 1,823,737 TEUs, Descartes Datamyne unveiled recently. The research company added a year-on-year improvement was registered for 10 months in a row. In the first quarter (January-March), total throughput on the eastbound route increased 41.7% to 4,944,928 TEUs.

By origin, containers from China nearly tripled, skyrocketing 195.9% to 1,066,298 TEUs. South Korea came next, exporting 192,079 TEUs, up 17.5%. Ranked third were exports from Vietnam, which surged 69.7% to 143,224 TEUs. Finishing in fourth place, those from Taiwan soared 10.2% to 95,304 TEUs. At the bottom of the top five, shipments from Singapore jumped 42.2% to 82,159 TEUs. Exports from Japan came in ninth, growing 18.2% to 49,530 TEUs.

As for major items, exports of furniture more than doubled, increasing 109% to 305,950 TEUs, while machinery inflated 61% to 166,604 TEUs. Electronic devices rose 61% to 134,883 TEUs and plastic products, 56% to 106,996 TEUs.
