The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) for Week 3(?) rose 0.5% from the previous week to 2,885 points, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE). From the corresponding week of 2020, however, it jumped a notable 190%.

On the route to Europe, most operators maintained freight rate standards, keeping the market from experiencing volatile ups or downs. Freight rates from Shanghai, as such, fell a minute 0.9% to $4,413 per TEU. Those to the Mediterranean, meanwhile, remained unchanged at $4,296 per TEU.

On the trade to North America, fares increased mildly, as there were no signs of recovery in port congestions and container shortages in the U.S. Those to the east coast picked up 1.1% to $4,800 per FEU, while those to the west coast swelled 0.9% to $4,054 per FEU.

Container rates to the Middle East Gulf shrank a slight 0.7% to $1,982 per TEU. Those to Australia and New Zealand also declined on a small scale, going down 1.8% to $2,406 per TEU.

Demand stayed at high levels for moving containers to South America, helping freight rates improve 3.2% to $8,907 per TEU.

Transport demand was basically stable for shipments destined to Japan. Container rates to Kansai and Kanto stayed flat at $244 per TEU and $251 per TEU, respectively.
