Taiwan’s four major ports handled a total of 2,565,777 TEUs of containers traded directly to and from China in 2020, which swelled 2.95% from the previous year, according to up-to-date statistics unveiled on Jan. 14 by Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC).

Individually, Kaohsiung was responsible for 1,163,181 TEUs, down 4.36%; Keelung, 640,813 TEUs, up 7.92%; Taichung, 611,734 TEUs, up 8.69%; and Taipei, 150,049 TEUs, up 25.52%. As these figures indicated, growth in throughput was greatest at Taipei, while Kaohsiung was the only port to incur a year-on-year decrease.
