Shanghai port maintained the top position in the world in terms of container throughput in 2020. Its box throughput totaled 43.5 million TEUs last year, ranking the first in the world for 11 consecutive years. Its booming coastal container volumes contributed to the positive growth of the Shanghai box trade. The port handled 6 million TEUs in coastal trades, up 15% from a year earlier.
Yangshan Deep-Water Port in Shanghai set a new yearly record in container throughput last year, achieving over 20 million TEUs.
