Containers Moved on TSR Surge 24% to Top 1Mln TEUs in Jan.-Sept.
The accumulated volume of containerized shipments moved on the Trans-Siberian Railway (TSR) by Russian Railways in the first nine months (January-September) of the year surged 23.8% year on year to 101.7 million TEUs, according to data that the Trans-Siberian Intermodal Operators Association of Japan (TSIOAJ) has obtained from the International Coordinating Council on Trans-Siberian Transportation (CCTT). In breakdown, transit cargo accounted for 159,300 TEUs, down 4.7%; imports, 411,200 TEUs, up 17.5%; and exports, 446,200 TEUs, up 46.7%. Containers moved between Japan and Russia suffered a double-digit contraction of 16.3% to total 45,900 TEUs. The total consisted of 2,100 TEUs of transit cargo, down 6.7%, 5,500 TEUs of imports, down 44.3% and 38,400 TEUs of exports, down 10.4%.
