A total of 24.17 million TEUs of containers were processed at ports in China in November, up 8.8% year on year, according to the nation's Ministry of Transport (MOT). Coastal and inland river ports both performed well, handling 21.25 million TEUs, up 8.9%, and 2.9 million TEUs, up 7.8%, respectively.

From the beginning of the year, 241.4 million TEUs were moved to and from China in total, up 0.8%. Coastal ports were responsible for 214.18 million TEUs, up 1%, and inland river ports, 27.22 million TEUs, down 0.7%.

Monthly throughput at Shanghai, the world's busiest container port, amounted to over 4 million TEUs again in November, while the accumulated volume from January exceeded 40 million TEUs on Dec. 1. Based on these figures, Shanghai is highly likely to defend its title for 11 consecutive years.
