The total volume of foreign-trade containerized shipments processed at Japan’s six major ports (Tokyo, Kawasaki, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe) shrank 2.1% from a year earlier to 1,165,127 TEUs in October, according to the latest preliminary port and harbor statistics unveiled by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). Exports declined 1.2% to 586,490 TEUs, while imports diminished 3.1% to 578,637 TEUs. However, they both posted smaller year-on-year contractions than the previous month.
