A total of 217.23 million TEUs of containers were processed at Chinese ports in the first 10 months (January-October) of 2020, which remained nearly unchanged from a year earlier, only decreasing a minute 0.03%, according to statistics compiled by the nation’s Ministry of Transport (MOT). Coastal ports were responsible for 192.91 million TEUs, down 0.2%, while the balance of 24.32 million TEUs were moved to and from inland river ports, down 1.6%.
In October, containers handled at Shanghai, the world’s busiest container port, exceeded the four-million-TEU line to set a new monthly record of 4.2 million TEUs. Meanwhile, throughput continue to grow at Tianjin from January through October, during which it swelled 5.6% year on year to 15.56 million TEUs.
